Ann's Drums
Whenever I have some free time, I like to jump in my truck and head north.
On my last trip, I stopped by to visit a new friend of mine, Ann. Though, I have to admit she feels more like an old friend. There is simply a comfort level between us that I can't quite explain in words.
What first attracted me to Ann were her drums. All of them handmade, mostly from Elk hide, but all with love. I knew right away I wanted to use one in a photo shoot. And I finally did.
It's a little blurry in the shot above, but it's there on the left. Below is a behind the scene photo of all of us prepping the drum for the shot.

In The Bag
In a little boutique in the West Village is where I first stumbled across Jessica Moriber's bag line, Pollux Handmade.
It was love at first sight. These bags become individual pieces of artwork as each one is hand cut and stitched. Anything made with so much care and attention I will support. Just wanted to share.

Billy from Barney's
I met Billy downtown.
Not one to walk up to strangers on the street and start a conversation, but I did with Billy.
I have a thing for good leather and he was carrying.
Billy was gracious enough to show me the beautiful details of his camel leather Henry Cuir handbag. Well worth approaching a stranger.
It was a pleasure!

My Favorite Man
It's funny, even as a little girl I can remember my grandfather coming into a room and people would notice and the ladies, they would smile at him.
He had it. Whatever it is, he had it. Still does.
He has this confident ease that he walks the world with while holding a shot of whiskey in his right hand. His eyes brighten when my grandmother walks into the room. Still wears his vintage levi's and snap button shirts. He told me once to be kind to men because broken hearts happen and why not be nice along the way.
And most impressive, out of all the stories he's told in his life, I have never heard him speak ill of anyone.
Do me a favor, next time you got a shot of whiskey in your hand, give a little toast to Kenneth Lee.
He's my favorite.

Good Underwear
While thumbing through a rack at a thrift store, a woman, guessing in her late 60's approaches me. She asks with a smile on her face what I think of the shoes she has tried on.
I met and matched her smile. Wondered if it mattered what I thought; they appeared to make her so happy. Told her if she could walk in them confidently and made her feel good, she should get them.
Not quite sure how my mind switched from shoes to underwear, but just after she thanked me and before she walked away, I decided to give her a little more advice...
...You know what else makes you walk confidently and feels good to wear? Good underwear. Doesn't matter if they're your favorite cotton briefs or your sexiest bra and panties. And sometimes the best underwear is no underwear at all...
I'm not sure if I inspired or disgusted her that day. The look on her face was blank, she never said a word, and we went our separate way.

Sunday Morning Beginning
I realize it's no longer morning, but it still feels like it to me. I think I'm going to pretend it's morning all day, soaking it up with fond memories of the night before.
Recently, I've been fascinated with interesting beautiful things. You know that feeling when you look at something, someone and it just makes you stop, even for a second and you feel good before you can begin to understand why?
That's interesting to me and finding the beauty in it, well...that's fascinating.
This piece made me stop.
